2008 Hard Times Tokens
For those who don't know, back in the mid 19th century, during the "hard times", privately made tokens, made to look like large cents, were minted by merchants in an effort to get them to circulate due to lack of gov't issued coin. Like this example below, they illustrate the political dissatisfaction with the times:
http://www.cartage.org.lb/en/themes/...ls/htt2600.jpg I recently found a private mint where they used the same concept for a 2008 hard times token to bring attention to the "great 2008 bank scam".
